Life Enrichment Activities Bring “All Smiles” During COVID-19

Social activity and community engagement are essential ingredients for the well-being and quality of life for seniors. At Gulf Coast Health Care (GCHC), we take great pride in creating a full calendar of daily activities so residents have a variety of ways to stay engaged with others and involved in their communities.

As we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re keeping our residents engaged with unique and heartwarming life enrichment activities while staying safe and following social distancing guidelines. To ensure our residents get plenty of face-to-face time from the safety of their rooms, our centers have also employed additional life enrichment team members.

Taking life’s hurdles in stride

Our centers have been hard at work (and play) developing exciting new ways to keep our residents social, active and happy. Residents of Heritage Park Health and Rehabilitation Center were beaming from ear to ear when beautiful horses greeted them just outside their windows. It’s moments like these that warm our hearts, lift our spirits and take our minds off things like COVID-19. Here is just a sample of the type of enrichment activities our residents enjoy throughout our centers:

  • Drive by parades to celebrate special occasions
  • Window and FaceTime visits with families
  • Gardening, planting and outdoor concerts
  • Hallway bingo and other games
  • In-room arts and crafts
  • Carnival day activities like balloon tosses and BBQs
  • Karaoke parade with residents
  • Hula dancers for residents
  • Visit from the Easter bunny

In addition to physical and physiological health, quality of life for our seniors is at the forefront of care. We believe you’re never too old to have fun, and that’s why we offer comprehensive programs to enrich the emotional, social, spiritual, physical and educational dimensions of wellness for everyone in our care.
